Tho Choo Kee joined the Rotary Club of Teluk Intan on 11th August 1965. He served in every director position before elected as President in 1971/72. He was re-elected as President in 1975/76 and in 1987/88. Altogether he had served 3 terms of presidency in this club and the only person to do so in the history of Rotary Club of Teluk Intan.

Throughout his terms of office, many innovative projects were carried out to serve the people of Teluk Intan. Some of the notable projects were:

  • The First traffic light in Teluk Intan
  • Skating rink
  • Bus Shelters
  • Annual visits to old folks homes and Bethany Home
  • Donations to the children ward in Hospital Teluk Intan
  • Sponsoring medical operations for low income earners

He has also organised a number of fund raising projects and the most notable one was the fashion show in Kwang Tong Association in 1971 in which Past President Philip Han Yeong Wom, PHF and his wife Ann Annie Han took part as models. About M$30,000 was raised from this function.

Tho was awarded the Paul Harris Fellow in 1997 for his dedicated service to Rotary.

In 1996, Tho took up the formidable task initiated by the club to form the Senior Citizens Club of Teluk Intan and he was made Charter President.

In addition to Rotary, Tho was very active in other community groups and organisations in Teluk Intan. He served as President, Secretary and other important positions of the Kwong Thong Association for more than 20 years. He also served as President of the Nan Foon Soon Association, Goldsmith Association (served 30 years as President), Chinese Association and many others. He was also active in politics and he served as an advisor to the Malaysian Chinese Association (M.C.A.) Teluk Intan Branch for many years.

For his dedicated services, he was awarded JP, PJK, AMP by His Royal Highness the Sultan of Perak.

Tho was a fatherly figure in the club and he mixed very well with everyone. He was a role model to members as he had strong leadership qualities and was a down to earth person.
